Our
STORY
…in 1991 I started a new journey in Kauai in the small community of Hanapepe, I started with my 1-year-old son on the back of an old bicycle we made our way. We began selling curios from Hawaii and South America in particular Bolivia...earnings, neckless, mango fruit that I used to picked all around the mountains, flowers, cucumbers; Orange marmalade was one of my first sellers!
All of our travels have allowed us to be cultural sensitive, which in turn has bestowed upon me a keen culinary aptitude. My diverse heritage, my love, and appreciation for the Hawaiian culture allowed me to learn and enjoy their island cooking! With this I integrated my Bolivian culinary skills with island delicacies, I love the rich and flavorful cuisine of Island cooking, and with a bit of love and Bolivian added spice, I bring some of my South American cuisine to the Islands.
After hurricane Iniki we were forced to leave the Islands and we left our heart and souls in the Islands, with tears in our eyes and a painful heart promising the Islands that one day if we are lucky enough we will come back and stay. We needed to win “el gordo” the lotto.
After finishing my University in my country and many changes in our lives, we decided to take the risk with what we had and make the best of it.
Because we felt the strong Aloha from the Islands we were able to come back, I believe that the Islands brought us back and kept my son and I safe. We started a new life, not speaking any English, no money and not knowing anyone on Oahu. The Island knew us and helped us.
After 23 years of hard work, I learned the English language, educated my son and myself in the American University, and became a University Language Educator. Today, we are here, like yesterday, like the days, months, years never pass, with new additional blessing to our Ohana, my honey girl, my fiancée and my daughter in law. We love it here; every day is like the first day, new start, new sun, new breeze, new project, and new life in the lovely Hawaii, the hawaii that never left me alone and always gave me just what I needed at the perfect timing.
